Indiana Governor Signs Repeal of Common Construction Wage Law

Repeal of the state's common construction wage law set to take effect in July

Governor Mike Pence signed legislation to repeal the state's law setting wages for state and local government construction projects. Gov. Pence says repealing the law will allow the free market to determine pay scales rather than government boards. Supporters of the repeal believe it will reduce project costs by up to 20 percent. Opponents of the repeal dispute those savings and say it will open the door for low-paying out-of-state contractors. The repeal is set to take effect in July.
