Dennis Barous, president of Essex Silver-Line, has retired from his position in the family business. His new goal is to spend more time with his wife visiting his children and getting to see his grandchildren grow. Dennis worked with his brother Frank for many years building the Silver-Line family of floor sanders.

With the retirement of Barous, Essex Silver-Line has promoted John Goddard to the office of president. Goddard started with the company in 1990 and has been in manufacturing, sales and office management. The company says it looks forward to the future with John overseeing the business.

Essex Silver-Line was founded in 1938 by Francis A. Barous as Essex Machine Sales. Frank Sr. sold to the hardware industry in New England and New York.  He got involved with floor sanders when he sold Porter Cable machines. In 1958, he began to sell his own floor sander, the Silver-Line8 or SL8, as it became known. Frank jr worked with his father in the late 50s and Dennis Barous started in the 1970s. Frank and Dennis combined Essex Machine Sales and Silver-Line Sander to become Essex Silver-Line.

Still a family business, Essex Silver-Line says it manufacturers floor sanders for the rental industry that provide customers the best ROI and allow the DIYer to achieve professional results.
