Consumer Reports Measures EcoDiesel Grand Cherokee's Impressive Fuel Economy

EcoDiesel Jeep -- using the same engine sold in the 2014 Ram 1500 pickup truck -- delivers 24 mpg overall, 32 mpg on the highway

Compared with its V6 gasoline counterpart, the diesel version of the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee boosted overall fuel economy 6 mpg in Consumer Reports testing to 24 mpg without significant compromise in performance or refinement. Highway efficiency of 32 mpg delivers 785 miles of cruising range.

The 3.0-L EcoDiesel in the 2014 Grand Cherokee is the same engine sold in the 2014 Ram 1500 pickup truck.

2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel Sets 4x4 Fuel-Economy Benchmark of 27 MPG

A 2014 freshening of the Grand Cherokee brought an eight-speed automatic transmission, and electric steering system (both are also features of the 2014 Ram 1500 EcoDiesel).

Consumer Reports says the available 240-hp, 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 "helps the Grand Cherokee further stand out for its impressive versatility. Overall, this modern diesel brings a new level of fuel efficiency to the Grand Cherokee while retaining a mostly civilized driving experience."

The diesel Grand Cherokee with EcoDiesel power matches the fuel economy of the diesel-powered Volkswagen Touareg TDI, tying two as Consumer Reports' most-efficient non-hybrid midsized SUVs in testing.
