This is a Construction News Tracker Special Report.
What seemed impossible a few months ago has become reality as the nation's construction industry forges ahead. Both houses of Congress have approved a five-year, $205 billion measure to pay for badly needed infrastructure improvements nationwide.
The bill takes effect with the President's signature, and for the first time in 10 years provides long-term financial stability to road construction.
The legislation, called 'Fixing America's Surface Transportation (FAST) Act,' represents a 25% increase in federal funds committed to surface transportation infrastructure. It will take effect with the signature President Obama has already promised.
