This July 2016 video shows crews from Seattle Tunnel Partners performing routine maintenance on Bertha, the SR 99 tunneling machine. Crews must regularly inspect and replace the tools that scrape away at the earth in front of the machine. This work must be completed in hyperbaric conditions similar to those found in an underwater dive.
