The crown jewel of Hartsfield- Jackson Atlanta International Airport is well underway. Via the joint venture NSMS, McCarthy is constructing twin canopies that are a new iconic gateway for the city of Atlanta.

Consisting of 3,500 tons of steel and covered in 19,776 sq. yds. of lightweight, ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (ETFE), the twin canopies improve the passenger experience by protecting visitors from the elements and improving traffic flow with elevated walkways. In addition, the Landside Modernization project includes upgrades to all 38 terminal entrances, terminal facade and ceilings, renovations to the vestibule, lobbies, and curbside check-ins, bringing the nearly 40-year-old terminal into the 21st century.

Begun in Sept 2016, the north terminal canopy completed Oct. 2018 and the south terminal canopy is scheduled for completion Sept. 2019. The overall project, valued at $130 million, is expected to be complete in spring 2020.
