The Dodge Construction Network today released its Momentum Index report for March 2023. That report shows the index dropped 8.6% in March. This is not completely unexpected, as Dodge Construction Network has predicted that the index would weaken in 2023 as it recedes to a more normal level after historic highs in 2022.

Other trends include:

  • Commercial fell 6.6% and institutional decreased 12.9%
  • A steady flow of research and development labs entered planning
  • 18 projects with a value of $100 million or more entered the queue

Year-over-year, the DMI remains 24% higher than March 2022

Sarah Martin, Dodge Construction Network's associate director of forecasting, delivers the report in this video on YouTube.

The Dodge Momentum Index (DMI) is an economic indicator for nonresidential building projects, tracking the dollar value of these projects in their earliest stages of planning.
