NYC Officials Demand Better Construction Safety

City Council will hold an oversight hearing seeking answers following a worker’s fatal elevator-shaft fall last week

A worker at the Riu Plaza Times Square Hotel in New York City died Tuesday after plunging about ten stories down an elevator shaft. With his death, the rapidly developing city has already surpassed in 2015 the eight construction deaths recorded in all of the previous year.

City officials are calling for improved construction safety measures and the city council is holding an oversight hearing today to seek answers.
