An investigation has been opened into an accident where scaffolding fell from the top floor of a Brickell-area condo tower under construction in Miami, killing one bystander and injuring five others. The man who died ran from the falling debris but apparently died from a "cardiac incident". The other injuries were non-life-threatening.
According to Miami City Manager Daniel Alfonso, construction workers were loading and unloading equipment onto the cantilevered scaffolding platform using a crane when the temporary structure either became stressed or took on too much weight.
Miami's building department and The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the incident.
