Contractors can now make mistakes before they even start building. Using new augmented reality technology being developed in the lab of Assoc. Professor Vineet Kamat, construction sites can be visualized before work begins, allowing for changes to the plan and error prevention without the actual costs or safety concerns.
Kamat's technology uses a video see-through augmented reality display, created through the use of a camera placed on the subject's head. The camera relays real-world images to a computer, which uses a mix of GPS positioning and algorithms to overlay the virtual items into the space.
