ServiceTitan has released its first annual report on AI adoption in the skilled trades, surveying more than 1,000 contractors across residential and commercial sectors. The report highlights how AI is reshaping operations, improving efficiency and helping businesses grow.

Nearly half of respondents (46%) are already using or experimenting with AI, and 66% expect it to transform the industry within three years. Contractors see AI as a tool for boosting productivity (74%), improving decision-making (51%) and reducing costs (48%).

The report notes that adoption barriers are largely organizational rather than technical. Common challenges include lack of training, integration difficulties, and unclear ROI, while employee resistance remains low (18%).

Contractors favor AI integrated directly into existing software, with 59% using embedded tools over standalone or custom-built systems. AI’s impact spans the field, office, and back office, with administration, marketing, sales and customer service seeing the most adoption.

ServiceTitan concludes that trades businesses are leveraging AI to streamline high-volume, repetitive tasks, freeing teams to focus on craftsmanship, customer care and business growth.
