St. Paul, Minn.'s, Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity Department awarded a $200,600 grant to a Goodwill/Easter Seals construction training program that mixes classroom instruction with onsite work in a neighborhood that needs revitalization.
“What’s unique about this approach is it is not targeting younger people but rather people looking at second careers who have obstacles to getting employment,” said Alex Dumke, spokesman for the city’s Human Rights and Equal Economic Opportunity Department. “These people are (older) adults."
The grant allowed St. Paul-based Goodwill/Easter Seals to double the number of students in the construction skills training program, most of them minorities who live in urban neighborhoods.
