The consortium of Dragados USA Inc., Flatiron West Inc. and Shimmick Construction Co. will be constructing the second segment of California's new rail line. The California High-Speed Rail Authority board voted unanimously to award the $1.36 billion contract for the 65-mile stretch of the rail line to the consortium. Dragados/Flatiron/Shimmick's bid was the lowest and came in more than $500 million lower than the next best bid.
The rail agency has until late July to finalize a deal and give the contracting team the go ahead to start working without any increase in price. Once the contractor is give the green light to start they have four years to complete the work.
