Senate Votes Yes on Keystone XL Pipeline

Senate passes bill on a 62-36 vote but is five votes short of what's needed to override a promised veto from President Obama

The Hill

On Thursday the Senate voted for the Keystone XL oil sands pipeline. After three weeks of deliberation of more than 40 amendments, the bill passed with a 62-36 vote. All Republicans and nine Democrats voted yes. However, the Senate was still five votes shy of the two-thirds majority needed to override a promised veto from President Obama. The Senate's bill includes some amendments not in the original House bill. The bill will now head back to the House.
