Colorado Construction-Defects Bill Passes Legislative Committee, Moves on to Senate

Proponents of making changes to the Colorado law hope those changes will breath new life into the state's condominium and housing markets

After nearly eight hours of testimony, Colorado's Senate Business, Labor and Technology Committee passed Senate Bill 177 - which makes changes to Colorado's construction-defects law. Passing by a vote of 6 to 2, the bill now moves on to the full Senate.

Construction-defects Reform Bill Would Make it Harder for Homeowners to Sue Over Faulty Construction

Senate Bill 177 would make mediation or arbitration the preferred method of dispute resolution in construction -defects cases. It would also require the majority of all homeowners in a condo or homeowners association approve any legal action before it is taken. Several amendments were added to the bill the committee passed.
