The first phase of construction on Florida's I-4 Ultimate project has just gotten started, but Rep. John Mica (R-Florida) is already pushing to start the next $2 billion phase. The next phase would including tearing up and rebuilding another 40 miles of roadway.

Instead of waiting to start the next phase of construction in 2025, which is the target date for the Florida DOT, Mica wants to see the project start within the next four or five years. Funding still has to be secured for the project. Mica suggests the project could get $1 billion from the federal government and the other $1 billion through a public-private partnership.
