Google had plans for a groundbreaking Googolplex in Mountain View, Calif., but those plans may need to be rethought after the Mountain View City Council granted Google only 515,000 square feet of the available commercial space. That's only one-fourth of the available space and enough room for Google to build only one component of its four-part campus expansion.

Instead of granting Google all the space it requested, the city council granted LinkedIn 1.4 million square feet of the available 2.2 million square feet of commercial space in the area.
