Deal Could Avoid Work Stoppage at VA Colorado Hospital

Another stoppage in construction could cost $50 to $75 million for the already over budget project

The U.S. House of Representatives has approved an agreement that would keep construction of the Aurora VA hospital going for at least the next three weeks and avoid a work stoppage that would happen this weekend if no agreement is reached. The Senate is set to take up the matter today.

Construction of VA's Denver Hospital Could Stop Again

According to a letter from project contractor Kiewit-Turner, another stop in work could cost between $50 and $75 million. Additional costs could come from losing subcontractors. Kiewit-Turner predicts many of the subcontractors will terminate their contracts if the project is shutdown again. The lose of subcontractors could add an additional $75 to $125 million to the total project cost.
