Washington D.C. Finalizing New Soccer Stadium Development Deal

D.C. government will pay $150 million to acquire and prepare the land while D.C. United soccer team will privately fund the stadium

Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and soccer team D.C. United's owners have finalized a stadium development deal that would keep the team in D.C. as long as the District government can secure the needed land by September 30.

The new stadium is expected to cost around $286.7 million and would be open for the 2018 Major League Soccer season. The deal requires the District to pay $150 million to acquire and prepare the land in Southwest Washington D.C. The D.C. United team would privately finance the 20,000-seat stadium.
