Broward County in Florida says contractor Tutor Perini Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Venture owes more than $34 million in damages for costly delays to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport construction project. The county cites a doze significant deficiencies and unresolved issues relating to the work scheduled work that was to be completed nearly two years ago.
The county also claims the joint venture of Tutor Perini Corp. and Backer Concrete Construction Contractors owes liquidated damages for failing to meet various contractor deadlines.
The amount the county claims its owed exceeds the retainage, and therefore, the county intends to withhold future partial payments to the joint venture contractor.
The county has said it intends to enforce the terms of the contract and may result in litigation to do so.
