The Kansas Contractors Association is blaming state lawmakers and the cutting of road and bridge spending for the drop in construction jobs in the state. According to Bob Totten of the Kansas Contractors Association, more than $2.1 billion has been diverted from the Kansas transportation program over the past six years.
Analysis from the Associated General Contractors of America showed Kansas lost the highest percentage of construction jobs in January 2016 with a 4.7% decline. Kansas is also one of only six states to experience a drop in construction employment since January 2015.
