President Obama has started the process to tighten building standards in the private sector in hopes to reduce losses from extreme weather linked to climate change. With the building code work just beginning there is not cost estimate yet for home much this would add to construction costs.
A 2005 National Institute of Building Sciences study found every $1 spent mitigating potential hazards leads to an average of $ in future benefits.
