America's Largest Home Builder Found Negligent in Construction Defects Case

DR Horton ordered to pay $9.6 million to remove and replace stucco, roofs and windows in Florida condo community

A 38-day trial brought an end to four years of litigation after a jury found DR Horton negligent in building Heron's Landing condos in Jacksonville, FL. The nation's largest homebuilder will have to pay $9.6 million to remove and replace stucco, roofs and windows on the entire 240-unit development.

Prosecutors claimed the structures violate Florida building code and are riddled with defects. DR Horton denied the claim saying that any defects are isolated or insignificant. The defendant also claimed the condo owner association failed to properly maintain the buildings.
