The North State Building Industry Foundation and Sacramento homebuilders used paid summer internships to help train high school students and hopefully inspire them to pursue a career in construction or the trades after high school.
National homebuilder Lennar employed several high school juniors this summer through an internship program. Under guidance of Lennar mentors, the interns got hands-on experience in many aspects of home construction including pouring foundations, framing houses and installing plumbing.
“I try to expose them to everything we can so they can make choices,” said Sandy Wills, senior construction manager with Lennar at its Vineyard location.
