American Concrete Institute Offers Spring Seminars

Attendees can earn Continuing Education Units (CEUs) by participating in any of five seminars to be offered this spring

FARMINGTON HILLS, MI. - The American Concrete Institute (ACI) announces five educational seminars to be offered this spring to help the concrete professional remain up-to-date on concrete construction and technology.

ACI has provided the industry with educational seminars since 1969, and each year continues to conduct more than 50 seminars throughout the U.S. to over a thousand attendees on a variety of concrete technology-related topics such as structural design, durability, repair, troubleshooting, slabs-on-ground and site paving.

In addition to having the most up-to-date information at each seminar, attendees receive 0.75 Continuing Education Units (CEUs), or 7.5 Professional Development Hours (PDHs) per day, free ACI publications usually worth over $100, breads/pastries, lunch and refreshment breaks.

Repair Basics
This is a one-day seminar for engineers, repair contractors, material suppliers, maintenance personnel and public works engineers. Attendees will learn the best methods and materials for economical and effective concrete repairs, and topics will include condition surveys, repair techniques, repair materials, racks and joints and applications of repair techniques. Locations for this seminar include Boston, Mass.; Tampa, Fla.; Nashville, Tenn.; San Antonio, Texas; and Charlotte, N.C.

Concrete Slabs-on-Ground
This is a one-day seminar for specifiers, engineers, architects, contractors, building owners and government agencies. Attendees will learn to design, specify, and construct quality concrete floors, and topics include engineering considerations, moisture emission, design for shrinkage, curing, surface tolerances, preparation, placing, finishing and more. Locations for this seminar include New Orleans, La.; Miami, Fla.; Albany, N.Y.; and San Francisco, Calif.

Reinforced Concrete Design
This is a two-day seminar for engineers, designers, and anyone who wants to be brought up to date with ACI 318-08, Building Code Requirements for Structural Concrete and Commentary. This seminar will help attendees fine tune design skills and build more efficient and safe reinforced concrete structures. Topics include material properties, strength design method, design of two-way slabs, columns, walls, detailing of earthquake-resistant structures and more. Locations for this seminar include Baltimore, Md.; and Chicago, Ill.

Masonry Design to the IBC and MSJC Codes
This one-day seminar is aimed at practicing designers. This intense seminar reviews the masonry design and specification provisions in the 2008 MSJC's Building Code Requirements for Masonry Structures. While reviewing all major portions of the MSJC, instructors will highlight changes in the 2009 IBC. Locations for this seminar include Chicago, Ill.; Atlanta, Ga.; Dallas, Texas; Richmond, Va.; Denver, Colo.; Philadelphia, Penn.; and Portland, Ore.

Troubleshooting Concrete Construction
This one-day seminar will provide contractors, design engineers, specifiers, government agencies, and material suppliers with solutions to problems with concrete. The seminar will cover placing reinforcement, preventing most cracks, making functional construction joints, vibrating concrete properly, detecting delaminations, identifying causes of deteriorating concrete, and more. Locations for this seminar include Omaha, Neb.; New Brunswick, N.J.; San Diego, Calif.; Washington, D.C.; and Kansas City, Kan.
