CTS Cement has released two Rapid Set products, Non-Sag Sealant and Adhesive and Self-Leveling Sealant (available in black).
Based on solvent-free hybrid silane polyether technology, the non-shrink single-component products can be used on a range of substrates and bond to a range of construction materials. The list includes various surfaces such as asphalt, brick, cement board, concrete, fiberglass, foam, glass, masonry, metal, rock, rubber, stone, vinyl siding, wood and more.
Roofing Construction and Repair
Black Rapid Set Non-Sag Sealant and Adhesive and Black Rapid Set Self-Leveling Sealant can be used on material-type roof to waterproof gaps, holes and penetrations; and to join dissimilar-material components such as galvanized steel flashings and clay (terracotta), concrete and slate tiles. For example, owners seeking a watertight seal between building and gutter could apply the products to the back of metal or vinyl gutters before screwing the gutter into brick or wood.
In addition to asphalt shingles, the products bond to different types of composite material used in residential, commercial and industrial roofing: expanded polystyrene (EPS) insulation, ethylene propylene diene terpolymer (EPDM) and styrene-butadiene-styrene (SBS)-modified bitumen membranes, fiber-reinforced polymer or plastic (FRP) sheets and polyvinylidene-fluoride (PVDF) finishes.
The products are flexible enough to expand and contract with these construction materials without compromising the building envelope.
Asphalt Pavement
Because they provide adhesion to aged asphalt as well as concrete, Black Rapid Set Non-Sag Sealant and Adhesive and Black Rapid Set Self-Leveling Sealant can be used for closing asphalt-to-concrete joints and cracks in driveways, garages, patios, and sidewalks and other pathways.
“We developed a black version of these best-in-class formulations to respond to customer demand for the same quality technology they use the gray, sandstone, and white formulations for to fill roof joints and to quickly seal and paint windows, doors, siding, trim, and kitchen and bathroom plumbing,” said Aaron Hall, product line manager of adhesives, sealants and coatings. “Their superior physical properties and performance optimize construction and maintenance for any building owner.”
Ancillary Applications
Black Rapid Set Non-Sag Sealant and Adhesive and Black Rapid Set Self-Leveling Sealant can be used in conjunction with two other black Rapid Set products for asphalt placement and repair.
They’re based on CTS’ rapid-hardening calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement, an alternative to Portland cement that’s resistant to deterioration caused by chlorides, alkali-silica reaction (ASR), sulfates, shrinkage cracking and freeze-thaw cycles. Installation is straightforward (add water, mix and place) with the following features:
- Driveways treated with Rapid Set Asphalt Resurfacer are ready for traffic in two hours. The material is fiber-reinforced for durability. Available in 25-lb. boxes.
- An alternative to cold patch that doesn’t require installation in layers or tamping, Rapid Set Asphalt Repair Mix contains 3/8-in. pea gravel to fill potholes and other damage up to 24 in. deep. Available in 50-lb. bags, the material is ready for traffic in two hours.
