This year, the epoxy-coated reinforcing industry celebrates 40 years of corrosion protection for steel in concrete. Since 1973, epoxy-coated reinforcing steel has been used in construction projects worldwide, especially in the United States, Canada, Japan, China, India and the Middle East. In the U.S. alone, more than 74,000 bridge decks covering 850 million square feet utilize epoxy-coated reinforcing steel.

The coating and application processes of epoxy-coated reinforcing steel have evolved over the past 40 years. These changes have resulted in epoxy-coated reinforcing steel products that are more flexible, robust and durable, and are reflected in the product specifications ASTM A775 and ASTM A934 for reinforcing bar and ASTM A884 for welded wire fabric.
