Drivers crossing New York's Tappan Zee Bridge were stuck for hours Tuesday (July 19) afternoon after a construction crane working on the new Tappan Zee Bridge collapsed blocking all lanes of traffic on the old Tappan Zee Bridge. Four people were injured, none seriously.
The crane collapsed shortly after noon. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.
Engineers inspected the bridge and found "significant damage" along the southern-most lane. The northbound lanes were reopened Tuesday evening. Two south bout lanes were scheduled to also reopen later Tuesday evening. The damaged lane is set to remain closed until structural damage can be repaired.
