Volvo CE Introduces Short-Swing Excavator with Efficiency and Lifting Upgrades

Volvo Construction Equipment has introduced the ECR355, the latest update to its short-swing radius excavator line, designed for building and utility work where space is limited.

The model delivers up to 7% better fuel efficiency than its predecessor, supported by a new electro-hydraulic control system and redesigned main control valve. Electric cooling fans operate only when needed to help reduce fuel use, noise and engine load. The ECR355 offers a 7% increase in lifting capacity and 4% more tractive force, aimed at improving performance in grading, lifting and loading. Volvo’s Active Control system automates boom and bucket movements for faster grading, while Dig Assist and boundary-limit features support 2D and 3D machine control.

Service intervals remain among the longest in the category, with 1,000-hour engine oil changes and 3,000-hour hydraulic oil changes. Maintenance points are grouped for easier access, and ground-level service and quick-drain ports are designed to limit downtime. Safety features include Volvo’s Smart View system with 360-degree cameras and radar-based detection, along with telematics tools for monitoring machine health.

The excavator’s cab provides more space than previous short-swing models, with improved cooling, lower noise levels and added conveniences such as Bluetooth, wireless charging and expanded storage. Updated joysticks, electric travel pedals and ergonomic controls aim to improve operator comfort and responsiveness during long shifts.
