Volvo Construction Equipment and Unicontrol have expanded the availability of Unicontrol3D machine control technology to Volvo excavators in North America following its rollout in Europe in 2025.

The system integrates with Volvo Active Control, allowing operators to use a single interface and hardware platform. The technology is designed to support excavation tasks such as trenching, slope grading and site profiling.

When contractors order Volvo’s Co-Pilot with Dig Assist system from the factory, the necessary hardware and software are preinstalled. The Unicontrol3D application can then be activated on the machine.

Unicontrol3D is designed to work across different excavator models, data formats and workflows, which can allow contractors to use the system across mixed fleets. The technology is developed by Unicontrol, a Denmark-based software company owned by Spectra Precision.
