Komatsu held horsepower of the 40,000-lb. WA380-7 wheel loader the same as the -6 model it replaced at 191, but claims the new Tier-4-Interim-certified diesel can decrease fuel consumption by 10%. The Komatsu Diesel Particulate Filter has an integrated design that will not interfere with daily operation but will keep the operator aware of its status.

Komatsu SmartLoader Logic automatically adjusts engine torque to match working conditions. It helps save fuel by decreasing engine torque when the loader isn’t working hard, such as when it is driving with an empty bucket.

A new Komatsu Large Capacity Torque Converter with lock-up as a standard feature improves acceleration, hill climbing, raises top speed and lowers fuel consumption. The torque converter locks in 2nd, 3rd and 4th gears and gives the machine a maximum ground speed of 25 mph.

Front glass in the new cab has been lowered and the dashboard redesigned to improve visibility. Electronic Pilot Control (EPC) levers and an F-N-R switch are part of a new seat-mounted right-hand console.

The WA380-7 has increased cooling capacity, wider cooling-fin spacing and a standard auto-reversing fan to help keep the radiator clean.

The new high-resolution 7-in. LCD monitor offers the operator the option of using the ECO Guidance function, which will provide operational tips to reduce fuel consumption. A high-resolution back-up camera is standard with every machine.

Komatsu's EMMS (Equipment Management Monitoring System) monitors all critical systems, preventative maintenance, and provides troubleshooting assistance to speed diagnosis and repair time. And the WA380-7 is equipped with KOMTRAX technology, which sends machine operating information to a secure website via wireless networks. Data such as operating hours, fuel consumption, location, cautions and maintenance alerts are relayed to the web application for analysis. The monitoring system can be used to increase machine availability, reduce risk of machine theft, remotely diagnose problems, and provide operating information to drive training and productivity.
