Caterpillar has rolled out updates across its hydraulic excavator lineup as part of its 2025 model year product refresh. The enhancements are designed to boost machine efficiency, simplify setup and support faster, more accurate operation. The updates span small, medium and large excavators as well as material handlers, wheeled excavators, and forestry/specialty machines.
Integrated Grade Technology
For 2025 models, Cat Grade with Advanced 2D is now integrated into the standard Cat Grade with 2D system. The upgrade offers real-time vertical and horizontal guidance, reducing the need for traditional grading methods like ground stakes. Operators can adjust target depth and slope directly from the cab using joysticks, the touchscreen display, or a jog dial.
The system is compatible with multiple bucket types, including digging, cleaning, grading, and tilting, and its components are built into the machine for durability in tough applications. For those working with complex designs, Cat Grade with 3D is now available as a factory-installed option on select track and wheeled excavators. This simplifies the upgrade process for customers who may want to add 3D functionality after purchase.
Enhanced Payload and User Interface
A new user interface for Cat Payload systems allows for faster setup and easier navigation. It supports on-the-go weighing and provides real-time load data to help operators hit precise load targets. The interface makes it easy to configure different work tool combinations, cutting calibration time and improving efficiency.
Cat track excavators can also be upgraded to Advanced Payload, which adds capabilities like custom tags, daily production totals, and electronic ticketing. When connected to VisionLink®, Advanced Payload enables remote analysis of jobsite productivity and machine performance.
Key benefits of the upgraded payload system include:
- Reduced fuel use and labor costs
- Improved accuracy for load targets
- Faster learning curve for new operators
- Load safety monitoring to prevent overloading
Operator Training Resources
The updated features are showcased through Caterpillar’s operator training platform, which offers resources such as eLearning modules, simulators, and in-person training to help crews maximize performance and jobsite safety.
