At 2012 Intermat, Cummins introduced its smallest off-road diesel engine -- the 2.8-liter QSF2.8 -- that meets Tier 4 Final and EU Stage IIB emissions regulations with a passive Cummins Compact Catalyst aftertreatment system. Electronic controls drive a high pressure common rail fuel injection system, bringing multiple fuel injection events with over 23,000 psi capability to the under-75-hp range. Key engine parameters are constantly monitored and engine performance is adjusted to deliver optimum performance, combustion and fuel efficiency for the operating conditions.

Cummins developed its Compact Catalyst specifically for Tier 4 applications as a maintenance- free, fit-and-forget system for use in rental equipment. The catalyst requires no ash-cleaning service, no sensors, and no warning lamp for operators. Without the catalyst, the same QSF2.8 base engine meets all other emissions requirements, including Tier 3 and Stage IIIA, to provide a single, global platform for all applications.

  • 49 hp at 2,500 rpm; 74 hp at 2,400 rpm
  • Weighs 507 lbs.
  • Rear gear train
  • Capable of peak cylinder pressure equal to Cummins QSB4.5
  • Cummins Direct Flow air filter system
