Contractor Admits to Working Without Permit Where Parking Garage Collapsed

Seven-story parking garage for Dallas condominium building collapsed, leaving more than 200 cars trapped in the rubble but no one injured

Reconstruction Experts Inc. admitted to starting work on a high-rise condo's pool deck prior to a permit being issued. During construction work, the condo's seven-story parking garage collapsed trapping hundreds of cars in the rubble but luckily resulting in no injuries.

Investigators are looking into whether the pile of construction materials (including concrete, dirt and rocks) the contractor placed on the garage's top level was the cause of the collapse.

The contractor admitted "standard protocol was not followed" when the supervisor of the project began work while the permit was still in process.
