GC, Subcontractors in Berkeley Balcony Collapse Named in Lawsuit

Twelve separate lawsuits are seeking unspecified damages for each defendant for negligence in construction and maintenance of the apartment

Survivors and family members of those who died in the collapse of a balcony at a Berkeley apartment in June have filed 12 separate lawsuits against the owners BlackRock, property manager Greystar, general contractor Segue Construction and subcontractors involved.

The suit alleges Segue installed cheaper wood more vulnerable to water intrusion and left the framed balcony exposed to rainfall for months before waterproofing. The complaint further states that the wood was saturated with water when waterproofed sealing in the water.

The lawsuits are seeking unspecified damages for each defendant for negligence in construction and maintenance of the apartment.
