After a harsh winter, there is much to be done to get a home ready for a successful summer season. Not everyone has the time or the tools necessary to make their outdoor cleaning dreams a reality. Luckily, renting those items is a feasible and extremely sustainable option. Both do-it-yourselfers (DIYers) and landscape professionals use rentals to get their favorite projects done. Customers can rent the items once and reap the benefits all season long, and by promoting these products, rental companies can boost their own bottom lines along with keeping their loyal customers outfitted with the tools and equipment they need. Here's a list of some of the top projects for a spring refresh.

Landscaping

Including manicuring the lawn, pruning unsightly trees or planting new hedges to perfectly line the property, landscaping takes top billing in spring. Renting the right equipment can help customers update their yards for less money.

Start off with an aerator. Spring is the perfect time to aerate a lawn. It’s soft after the winter freeze, and fresh aeration will help to break up any dead grass or other organic material that may have gathered over the year. Aerating will help water, air and other nutrients penetrate through the soil and into the roots of the grass, leaving a healthy and lush lawn all summer long.

Once the lawn is aerated, an auger rental will make light work of digging holes for new shrubbery or trees. Additionally, a lawn edger will help to achieve crisp and clean edges and help to prevent the lawn from encroaching on driveways or sidewalks.

Gardening

What better time to build a garden bed than spring? A tiller can be an extremely helpful tool to rent when erecting a new garden or enlarging an existing one. Perhaps they’re looking for something even bigger. In that case, explain to your customers the benefits of renting a skid-steer to help clear or grade larger areas of land. From there, perhaps a brush hog or stump grinder is appropriate to help clear additional yard debris. The possibilities of a spring project are truly endless.

Once the area is cleared for the new garden bed, they may need to rent additional power tools such as a miter saw to assist in creating a raised garden bed. A trencher would also be a helpful tool to dig shallow trenches to separate the grass areas from the new garden beds. Trenching is a simple method that gardeners have been using for years, helping to improve soil conditions, enhance plant growth, and contribute to the overall success and appearance of a garden. Renting a trencher will help to get the job done in less time and with less strenuous effort.

Home maintenance

Yardwork isn’t the only project that gets attention during the spring season. That winter grime can do a number on people’s homes, so it’s important to keep pressure washers and carpet and floor cleaners on hand for potential renters.

Aside from improving curb appeal, pressure washers can also promote health and safety. Pressure washing not only gets rid of dirt and debris, but can remove mold, mildew and other contaminants, making for a healthier living or working environment. Pressure washing can also reduce the risk of slips and falls as well as maintain the overall integrity of surfaces and equipment.

The outside may be the main attraction during spring cleaning, but that doesn’t mean the inside is forgotten. After months of dirt being tracked inside during a harsh winter, their floors will likely also need a good cleaning. Having a selection of carpet and floor cleaners on hand for your customers is an excellent idea.

Create something new

A spring refresh isn’t just about cleaning. It’s also a way to spruce up an area that has been lackluster in years past. Take your rental services a step further and suggest other home improvement projects for your customers to complete.

Trucks and trailers can also be profitable rentals in the spring. Whether needed to haul mulch or to help get a large piece of equipment back to their home or job site, having a well-maintained inventory can help to boost your bottom line.

Regardless of the project, having your rental center stocked with spring and summer essentials is key to keeping your business moving. Another great tip is to keep your associates up to date on the latest project trends, as well as safety training on all your available equipment. The spring season is bound to keep rental centers busy, so it’s always best to stay prepared for anything. Whether you are outfitting a DIYer with their first tool rental or helping a professional try a larger excavator for a new job, rental companies are an integral part of the construction ecosystem.
