Hitachi Energy has introduced HyFlex Compact, a portable power system designed to provide temporary electricity for construction projects, infrastructure work and other off-grid applications.

The system combines hydrogen fuel cells, battery storage, power electronics and cooling systems in a single enclosure. It can operate as a standalone power source or connect with the electrical grid and other energy assets.

According to the company, HyFlex Compact converts hydrogen into electricity through fuel cells, producing power while generating only water and heat as byproducts. Optional AC and DC input modules allow the system to function as a mobile microgrid and integrate additional power sources when available.

The flexible power hub is intended for applications where grid access is limited or unavailable, including construction sites, mining operations, remote industrial facilities, temporary infrastructure and electric vehicle charging.

Hitachi Energy said the launch builds on previous hydrogen-to-power pilot projects that explored integrating fuel cells, power electronics and control systems in real-world operating environments.
