Eaton Exits Diesel-Electric Hybrid Sales in North America

Domestic sales of diesel-electric hybrid trucks started drying up when U.S. federal credits expired and diesel prices stabilized

Eaton confirmed that it's out of the diesel-electric hybrid business in North America, after the end of government incentives ended and stabilizing diesel prices curtailed sales.

"We are no longer selling hybrid units in North America," said Jim Michels, global business communications manager for Eaton's vehicle group. "The reason we're not selling in North America any longer is there really isn't a market for those products. If the market comes back we'll re-enter."

Sales of diesel-electric hybrid trucks started drying up when U.S. federal credits expired, Michels explained. Stabilized diesel prices and increased interest in natural gas as an alternative fuel have also contributed to declining North American hybrid demand.

Michels says hybrid demand remains strong in China.
