A rumored agreement between GM and International could put something very like International's DuraStar medium-duty trucks in Chevrolet trade dress. GM announced last week that it would begin branding and selling versions of Isuzu cab-over medium-duty trucks.

Forbes reports auto-industry sources suggesting General Motors will announce a new partnership with commercial-truck stalwart Navistar International to manufacture medium-duty trucks (Class 4, 5 and 6).

GM exited the medium-duty category in 2009 amid bankruptcy reorganization and the recession. And Navistar has medium-duty capacity to spare, with the end of its venture to build the F-650 and F-750 trucks sold with Ford’s blue oval (Ford begins in-house production of its all-new medium-duty trucks this year).

A GM/Navistar deal would be the second prong in General Motors’ reentry to medium trucks: earlier this month, the company announced it will brand and sell a version of Isuzu’s N-Series cab-over medium-duty trucks.
