Caterpillar is bringing the 16,027-lb. 307E2 mini hydraulic excavator in from China in an effort to better react to customer demand for models in the 7- to 8-metric ton weight class. It features a 50.3-hp Cat C2.4 turbo, Tier 4 Final engine and the load-sensing, flow-sharing High Definition Hydraulic System.

The 307E2 has been in production at Cat's Chinese facility for four years. According to Sherrie Williams, product application specialist at Caterpillar, it retains the premium standards and features customers have come to expect from Cat machines. "The Chinese usually put about 2,000 hours [per year] on a machine, where we in North America put about 500 hours," she points out. "So any type of application that it’s ever going to face, it’s been through, it’s been tested, it’s been reliable.

"We have a lot of good faith in the performance of the machine," she adds.

The 307E2 offers features found on the existing 308E2, but with the stability, reach and lift capacity of a standard tailswing and fixed offset boom design. "The fixed boom is the first one that we’ve brought into North America," says Williams. "All the other mini-excavators that we have in North America are swing boom."

The unit is also available with only two track options: steel or steel with pads. "We’re not offering a rubber belt option," says Williams, "again, to keep availability up for all of our customers in order to be able to react to all their needs."
