Dynapac introduced the CP28 to the North American market at World of Asphalt in St. Louis, positioning it as the heaviest ballastable pneumatic tire roller on the market. The company describes it as a versatile roller suited to proof rolling soil and base, mainline asphalt compaction, and chip sealing.
Ballast system: The CP28 runs on a flexible ballast system built around three watertight compartments, letting operators add or remove steel plates using a forklift, or ballast with alternative materials like wet sand, water, or steel. Eric Booth, Dynapac North America's compaction product manager, described the CP28 as a staggered roller with four wheels front and back, ballastable from 21,000 to 68,000 pounds.
Operator station: The CP28 features a new operator station modeled on Dynapac's heavy tandem roller line, with a 7-inch touchscreen and a keypad of daily controls that swivels and slides with the operator. Standard features include a fully adjustable swivel and slide seat and harmonized controls across Dynapac's asphalt product line, and the roller can be customized with an asymmetric cab for enhanced visibility.
Air on the Run system: A signature time-saving feature, Air on the Run inflates all tires from 0 to 120 psi in around 12 minutes, activated directly from the operator station.
Suspension: A new front suspension is designed to tilt and oscillate during proof rolling or dirt passes to maintain constant tire contact, offering 4.5 degrees of lateral oscillation and 1.5 degrees of tilt in both directions, while a new rear suspension adds 2.0 degrees of tilt in both directions.
Efficiency and jobsite features: The roller reaches speeds up to 12 mph and includes EcoMode and EcoSave technology, which maintains the lowest possible engine rpm and shuts the engine off automatically during extended idling. Each tire carries its own sprinkler system, scraper bar, and cocoa mat to limit asphalt pickup. Optional tire skirts help trap heat in the tires to further reduce asphalt pickup on the job.
