Last year, Asphalt Contractor magazine editor, Brandon Noel, met with experts to discuss the upcoming concerns about the possibility of an economic recession in the road building industry for 2023. However, it turned out that the predicted recession did not come to pass. This has created a sense of uncertainty among experts who are now looking towards 2024.

As we enter the new year, experts predict the state of the road building industry based on the consecutive passage of multiple pieces of groundbreaking infrastructure legislation including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) and the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA). These new laws were predicted to have a significant impact on the industry, but it remains to be seen how they will play out in practice.
