Vancouver Tests First Paving with Recycled Plastic

Recycled milk jugs and soda bottles added to warm mix could add value to a waste stream and cut fuel use up to 15%

The City of Vancouver unveiled what it says is the first use of recycled plastic -- such as milk jugs and yogurt containers -- in warm-mix asphalt paving materials.

Pilot projects have shown fuel savings of 10 to 15 percent and increased pavement lifespans, says Todd Strynadka, technical services manager with Terus Construction, a road construction group that operates in British Columbia and Yukon.
