NAPA chair-elect Kevin Kelly of Walsh & Kelly, Griffith, IN, presented INDOT Commissioner Brandye Hendrickson Indiana’s inaugural Perpetual Pavement Award last week at the opening general session at the Asphalt Pavement Association of Indiana’s annual meeting in Indianapolis. The meeting was attended by over 500 members and guests from the Indiana DOT and other public agencies.
Presented by Asphalt Pavement Alliance (APA), the Perpetual Pavement Award honors asphalt pavements that were designed and built with outstanding care and exceptional quality. The result is a long-lasting pavement, one that serves the traveling public well, provides true value to the taxpayers, and demonstrates both the convenience and the quality of asphalt pavements.
To be eligible, an asphalt pavement must meet the following criteria:
- 35+ years old
- 13+ years between overlays (average)
- No increase greater than 4 inches
The road that received the perpetual pavement honor was a four-mile stretch of US 31, MP 198.7-MP 202.7, Miami and Fulton Counties.
