NCDOT Replaces Defaulted Contractor on Road Project

Lane Construction is taking over road widening project after DeVere Construction walked off job in January and NCDOT found DeVere in default in February

Connecticut-based Lane Construction has been brought on board as interim contractor on North Carolina's 1.6-mile widening of Independence Boulevard in Charlotte after NCDOT found original contractor DeVere Construction in default in February. DeVere had walked away from the job in January with nearly 67% of the work completed.

Lane Construction will also take over a $4.4 million contract to replace bridges on North Tryon Street.

A breach of contract is allowing the state to invoke a performance bond and require DeVere's bonding company to replace the contractor and complete the project at no additional cost to the state.
