NAPA Announces 55th Annual Meeting

Education and events to help build your asphalt business

Lanham, MD -The National Asphalt Pavement Association announces that its 55th Annual Meeting, to be held January 17 - 20, 2010 at the Grand Wailea Resort & Spa in Maui, HI, will be filled with educational programs and networking events. In addition, committee meetings taking place both prior to and during the annual meeting are open to attendees.

The annual meeting offers a range of educational sessions emphasizing the latest technologies and future trends of the asphalt industry. Three and a half days will be filled with informative workshops and events that will build business alliances and broaden leadership skills.

The meeting kicks off with keynote speaker Chris Gardner, best-selling author of The Pursuit of Happyness, who rose from homelessness to become the owner and CEO of Gardner Rich LLC. Next up will be a general session with Jim Owens, CEO of Caterpillar, who will provide a unique viewpoint on current events shaping our industry from a global perspective. Informative workshops on key topics of interest to the asphalt industry make this a not-to-be-missed event.

Topics include:

  • "The Impact of Climate Change and Greenhouse Gas Regulations on the Asphalt Pavement Industry" - This session will focus on understanding current climate change legislation and greenhouse gas emissions reporting requirements; cap and trade programs that may have an impact on the asphalt pavement industry; how to compare a pavement’s life cycle carbon footprint, and more.
  • "Warm Mix - Life in the Fast Lane" - come to this session to hear about the state of the practice for WMA; experiences of contractors using WMA; how state agencies have approached its implementation; and what the future holds for WMA.
  • "RAP-Up" - This session will focus on best practices for designing and constructing RAP (reclaimed asphalt pavement) mixtures and will reveal information such as which agencies are allowing more RAP and how these pavements are performing.
