New Initiative Aims at Improving Suicide Prevention in Construction Industry

Guidebook helps contractors communicate the importance of mental health to managers, supervisors and employees

Engineering News-Record

To make construction executives, and the industry as a whole, more knowledgable about suicide prevention among construction workers, the Carson J. Spencer Foundation, RK Mechanical and the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention have released a suicide prevention guide. "A construction Industry Blueprint: Suicide Prevention in the Workplace" gives managers guidelines on healthy approaches and prevention measures to help make suicide prevention a health and safety priority in the industry.

The program is modeled after Australia's "MATES in Construction" as a guidebook to help contractors communicate the importance of mental health to managers, supervisors and employees.
