OSHA Finds Contractor At Fault for Structural Steel Collapse

OSHA says contractor did no erect structural steel framework according to manufacturer's plan and with inadequate bracing

The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has found Barnes Building & Management Group, Weymouth, MA, at fault for a preventable structural steel collapse at Bryant University on September 1, 2015. OSHA issued one willful and one serious violation carrying proposed penalties of $59,290.

OSHA claims the contractor did not erect the steel framework for an indoor practice facility at the university according to the manufacturer's plan. In addition, OSHA says Barnes Building failed to install adequate bracing to ensure the framework's structural stability during erection. These conditions led to the collapse which injured six workers.
