Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) named Sundt Construction, Inc. of Tempe, AZ, the nation’s safest construction company in 2015.
Sundt Construction was selected as this year’s Grand Prize winner because of its exceptional leadership in safety. The company was dedicated to the development and implementation of premier safety and loss prevention programs, and presented outstanding guidance in safety and occupation health management, risk control, safety training, worksite hazard identification and control, and safety program innovation, according to Charles Greco, the association’s past president and chairman of San Antonio-based Linbeck Group.
"The foundation of any successful construction project is workplace safety,” Greco said. “By demonstrating excellence in safety, firms like this strengthen our industry and set an outstanding example for others to follow."
The association, which oversees the Willis Towers Watson Construction Safety Excellence Awards, an annual ranking of construction safety programs, noted that 51 other companies were selected as winners for the quality of their safety programs.
Greco noted that there are multiple winners because the awards are distributed for a number of categories, based on the size of the company, the amount of work performed and the type of work performed. Awards were given for first, second and third place in six divisions:
- Highway & transportation
- Building
- Federal & heavy
- Construction management
- Utility infrastructure
- Specialty
Including Sundt, 19 construction companies received first place awards. The first place winners were:

The AGC-Willis Towers Watson Construction Safety Excellence Award winners are selected by a panel of five independent safety professionals within the government, corporate and insurance industries. Final judging for the awards program took place during the contractors’ association’s annual convention.
