A coalition of 22 groups including general contractors, the Manhattan D.A. and the Building Trade Employers' Association have asked a New York judge to hand down the maximum sentence possible to Harco Construction in charges related to a construction worker's death last year.
Harco was found guilty of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and reckless endangerment after a 22 year old died at one of the contractor's worksites. Reports say the worker died in an excavation pit that was not properly shored up.
The D.A. wants Harco fined $10,000 for each of the felony charges and $5,000 for the misdemeanor charges also wants Harco to pay for a television and print campaign promoting worker safety.
Judge A. Kirke Bartley is expected to sentence the company on July 13.
